Professionalism Blog--Are personal connections professional?
Personal connections are not professional in my eyes because I think professionals leave their personal feelings out the window and do what it takes to get the job done. For example, maybe in class you are paired up with a person to do an assignment with somebody you don't like. The professional thing to do is to just do your work and act accordingly to get the assignment done. As far as having a personal connections with your teacher, I think that a first name basis and some background and history of them is good enough. That way you know their style of teaching and what they are all about.

Interesting points. First Nations culture centers around connection on a personal level. How does this fit into your thinking of professionalism? Would you respond in a better way to a professor who wanted no connection or a great connection with you as a person?
